Love and Marriage

You are welcome to marry in the Church, whether or not you are christened and regardless of whether you go to church or not. It’s your church, and we welcome you! It is no only Pastor’s duty to marry you, but also a privilege. If you invite us to be part of your wedding, we offer a special place for such a special day. Getting married in church means that you make your promises to each other before God, in a setting where countless others have also committed themselves to one another.

How do I book the church?

As soon as you have decided you would like to get married in church, get in touch with  the Pastor to see whether the church is free on your preferred date.

The Pastor will probably wish to meet with you in person to discuss your plans.

 What are the legal requirements?

You must register your intention to marry at the Registry Office, Great Yarmouth Library, Tolhouse Street, NR30 2SH you can contact them on 01493 846648 and make an appointment to discuss this with them, they are very friendly and will give you all the necessary information and guidance you need.

If you are under the age of eighteen, you must have your parents’ consent to marry.

 How much will it cost?

The legal fees for a marriage cover the publication of the banns, these fees are fixed centrally and will cost £35 per person for the registrar’s work and £60 to book the church, the marriage service and the  certificate of marriage.( prices fixed for 2016)

These fees do not cover any extras you may wish to have for the service, such as flowers, candles , etc.

Can I choose what kind of service I want?

You may be able to choose between a modern service or more traditional, you can even write your own vows as long as the legal part of the service is included, talk over the options with our Pastor.

Other options which can be discussed with the Pastor, that can be included are the lighting of a unity candle.

The Pastor may give a brief talk or sermon.

If you have friends or family members you would like to involve in the service, for example by doing a reading or playing a musical instrument, discuss this with the Pastor at an early stage of your planning. This is your special day and we will accommodate your requirements as long as it is not disrespectful

An extra offering is that the service can be viewed on large screen, the choice is always yours.

What if one of us is divorced?

The Baptist Church stand for lifelong marriage and tries to do all it can to keep couples together. However, where appropriate circumstances apply, we will consider a second marriage. Marriage must never be entered upon lightly or selfishly, but responsibly. We do not aim to make you feel guilty, but for you to feel secure about the future. We do believe in forgiveness!

 Wedding Music

You will also need to choose the music for the entrance and exit after the service, you may have a favourite piece of music or special song you would like to use, It's your day and we will do all we can to make it special,
